Apply Now for the New Online or Hybrid Masters
Would you like to complete a master’s degree in Educational Technology and/or earn the Educational Technology (NP) endorsement? If you have already completed the Certificate program, there are two paths to achieving your degree: hybrid and online learning. You may begin the master’s program as early as this spring by taking an online course in the next cluster of courses. During spring semester 2008 we will be offering: CEP 815: Technology and Leadership. The enrollment deadline for the Online Educational Technology Masters is December 14, 2007.
Alternatively, you may enroll for our hybrid program in East Lansing. After acceptance into the Master of Arts in Educational Technology, participants will come together for one month: two weeks of face-to-face and two weeks of virtual sessions. On campus room and board is available for a nominal fee for those traveling from out of town. During the 2008-2009 academic year, students will complete three additional online courses and then return to East Lansing for a capstone seminar in Summer 2009. This version of the program combines the power of working together in a summer cohort with the flexibility of completing courses during the academic year. Enrollment deadline for this program is February 15, 2008.
Our master’s degree and endorsement in Educational Technology build on our existing certificate in Educational Technology. The Educational Technology (NP) endorsement is a 21 credit (7-course) program and the Master of Arts is a 30 credit (10-course) program. Both prepare teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals for the use of technology in support of teaching and learning in today’s educational environments and for effective leadership in the use of technology in education. The program draws on current theories of learning and development to understand the role of technology in teaching and learning and explores how technology transforms the curriculum. Our goal is to support educators in their efforts to prepare students who are technologically literate problem solvers and avid learners.
The master’s program is organized around three clusters of courses. The first cluster–which many of you have already completed–consists of the three courses in the 9-credit certificate in Educational Technology (CEP 810, 811, 812). These courses focus on learning to use and evaluate computer-based tools in educational environments.
The second cluster of three courses (CEP 800, 815, 822) takes the broader issues of learning, curriculum, teaching, and research as the starting point, and examines these issues in the context of new and changing educational technologies. Students now can take these courses online throughout the school year. Once a student chooses to start these courses online they must take the remainder of the courses online. Students may not switch between the online and the summer hybrid cohort.
Finally, a third cluster of courses focuses on more advanced work in learning to use particular technological tools, digging deeper into the use of technology to support powerful learning, and considering issues of professional development. These courses are offered in an online format.
We are excited about the endorsement and master’s degree programs. We hope you will join us! You will find application materials at http://edutech.msu.edu/masters.html. Or for more information, contact Leigh Graves Wolf at gravesle@msu.edu
