Invitation for US classrooms to participate in the E3Link Project

I am writing from Michigan State University about a ground breaking project linking high schools in the United States with high schools in Algeria. This “Partnership Schools Program,” funded by the U.S. State Department, is a collaborative program between Michigan State University, Creative Associates International in Washington, D.C., and the Algerian Ministry of National Education.

Over this past year we’ve built “bridges of understanding” between our two countries and the students who participated in the program. In 2007 students involved in the pilot project told their stories about their communities, cultures, and countries. The pilot project is now complete and the U.S. State Department has agreed to extend this important project for another semester (January through June of 2008).

We’re writing to provide you with the first opportunity to take part in the extension of this exciting global initiative. We are looking for 11th or 12th grade classrooms where the development of a Community Profile and interaction with another culture will fit into the curriculum. Participating teachers will need to make a commitment to offer this project during the second semester of the 2007/2008 school year. We have found that Social Studies classes seem to work the best. Interested teachers should have a basic understanding of how to use technology such as email, the Internet and Microsoft PowerPoint in order to participate. To learn more you can visit our program web site at www.e3link.org.

We hope you will consider this unique opportunity to partner with Algerian teachers and students. If you are interested in becoming a partner school for the winter/spring semester (February – June 2008) please email us with your information including school name and the courses you teach by December 14, 2007. Acceptance into the program will be on a first come first serve basis.

Thank you for your consideration and for your interest in this important global initiative. And please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Regards,
